Hello again music lovers! Here's another posting of my super-favorite band Dara Puspita. I'm cheating a bit here, I don't actually have this LP in my collection, it's a very tough one to locate. But my friend Kevin down under was good enough to supply me with a CD-R of it that he made when one passed through his hands a few years back.
Sadly though I don't have the song titles, PLEASE, if anyone knows the song titles e-mail me with them!! A very different sound from the previous four appeared on this Lp, but nonetheless this LP once again highlighted all that is to be loved by the one and only DARA PUSPITA!! Enjoy!!
UPDATE 6/26 This may be the track listing for this LP;
Side A: 01. Apa Arti Hidup ini 02. Harapan Kosong 03. Tabah Dan Cobalah 04. Berangkat Pulang 05. Welcome To My House
Side B: 01. Sendiri 02. Terlambat Sudah 03. Did You Know That? 04. Titik Terakhir 05. Jangan Buat Diriku Dungu

The tracks are; Ba Da Da Dum/Dream Stealer. The vocals are in English here and the group has a much more pop oriented sound going, but dig the way cool fuzzed out bass on the A side!! http://alrouse.gemm.com

Here is the first of several postings that I hope will expose the music of this great band to a wider audience. Dara Puspita were an all girl Indonesian beat/garage band that made 6 LPs and some EPs between 1966 and 197?.
Great,rough garage sounds and fantastic songs mixed with a youthful exhuberance and musical chops make their records some of the most sought-after [and thus pricey$$$$] slabs of vinyl amongst hardcore collectors.
This is for the curious who want to enjoy their sounds but can't afford the high price tags. It is also dedicated to all snobbish record collectors who won't share...YOU SUCK!

Here is my second posting of the music of the great Indonesian all-girl garage band Dara Puspita. Here I offer you their 4th LP, a 10", 8 song LP simply titled A Go-Go on the Elshinta label from 1967. They got the fuzz action going on here and this mini-LP contains some of the groups strongest tunes, namely, A Go-Go and Believe Me. http://alrouse.gemm.com

Here's more of Dara Puspita for ya folks. This 1966[?] EP features 4 tracks; Rudi, Ibu Pertiwi, Pudjaan Hati & Pip Pip Jeah. I believe a small stash of near mint copies turned up a short while ago, this has turned up several times on ebay in the last year for $25 or so. I saw a copy on another label once also. Enjoy.

This is another performance filmed for my now legendary documentary, "The Strange World Of Northern Soul". In late 1959, Sonny Turner replaced Tony Williams as the lead singer of the original Platters. Chosen out of 100 singers who auditioned, Sonny at the young age of 19, toured the world with "The Platters" bringing their music to people of all nations. Sonny brought The Platters back to the pop charts in the 1960's with such hits as "I love You 1000 Times", "With this ring" and "Washed Ashore"; as well as re-recording major Platter hits like "Only You", "The Great Pretender" and "The Magic Touch." You can hear Sonny's voice in various movies such as "The Nutty Professor II" starring Eddie Murphy. "Hearts in Atlantis" starring Anthony Hopkins and "Prince of the City" starring Robert DeNiro. There are only three surviving members of The Platters still alive today that can be heard on the hundreds of recordings and hit records that made The Platters one of the most successful vocal groups of all time. They are Herb Reed who founded the group in 1953 and sang bass. Zola Taylor, the female vocalist and Sonny Turner. Sonny remained with The Platters from late 1959 until 1970 when he left to pursue a solo career. In 2005, Mr. Turner received The Lifetime Excellence in Entertainment Award in Las Vegas where he currently resides. He was also inducted into The Vocal Group Hall Of Fame for his achievements with The Platters. Today Sonny performs all over the world; be sure to check his tour schedule and catch one of his shows. This video for their biggest Northern Soul record ever, "With This Ring", was filmed by my best friend, Ralph Tee, in Las Vegas, and of course the original version was written and produced by Northern Soul legend, Richard "Popcorn" Wylie.

Sleepy Lagoon (Description to follow)
--LYRICS-- A sleepy lagoon A tropical moon and two on an island A sleepy lagoon And two hearts in tune In some lullaby land The fireflies gleam Reflect in the stream They sparkle and shimmer A star from on high Falls out of the sky And slowly grows dimmer
The leaves from the trees All dance in the breeze And float on the ripples I'm lost in the spell That nightingales tell of roses and dew The memory of this moment of love Will haunt me forever A tropical moon A sleepy lagoon, and you Category: Music Tags: Sleepy Lagoon The Platters URL: Customize Embed:
